Vietnam, a country renowned for its rich cultural heritage, stunning natural landscapes, and warm hospitality, took center stage at the TRAVEX 2024 International Travel Fair held in Vientiane, Laos. The National Tourism Administration of Vietnam seized this opportunity to present its latest tourism policies, highlight its diverse range of destinations and attractions, and showcase the beauty of the country and its people to an international audience of media, press agencies, and travel enthusiasts.
During the press conference, Mr. Nguyen Quy Phuong, Head of the Tourism Promotion Department of the National Tourism Administration of Vietnam, emphasized the favorable conditions that make Vietnam an ideal tourist destination. These include its strategic geographical location, well-connected transportation system, young and dynamic workforce, diverse natural landscapes encompassing mountains, forests, beaches, and rivers, a unique ethnic culture, and a stable political system with excellent security measures in place.
Over the past years, Vietnam has made significant strides in expanding its international relations. It has established comprehensive strategic partnerships with all five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, numerous G20 countries, and has signed 16 free trade agreements with over 60 nations and major partners. Additionally, Vietnam has actively participated in more than 500 bilateral and multilateral agreements, further enhancing its economic and social development.
Mr. Phuong highlighted the Vietnamese government’s commitment to creating favorable conditions for tourists and positioning the country as a safe, friendly, attractive, humane, hospitable, and convenient destination. The tourism development philosophy revolves around offering distinctive products, professional services, streamlined procedures, competitive prices, a clean and beautiful environment, and safe, civilized, and friendly destinations.
In a testament to Vietnam’s tourism recovery, Mr. Phuong announced that tourism activities have returned to normal and the country has experienced a remarkable rebound. In 2023, international tourist arrivals reached 12.6 million, marking a 3.5-fold increase compared to the previous year. To further facilitate travel, Vietnam introduced electronic visas for citizens of all countries and territories, extended the temporary residence period from 30 to 90 days, and expanded the visa-free temporary residence period from 15 to 45 days for citizens of select countries.
To consolidate its position in the global tourism market, Vietnam has focused on market restructuring, diversifying and enhancing competitiveness, and expanding international air routes to key markets such as Europe, America, Australia, and India.
Vietnam boasts a wealth of natural resources, offering diverse tourism products that revolve around four main product lines: beach tourism, cultural tourism, heritage and ecological tourism, and urban tourism. Additionally, the country provides supplementary offerings like luxury resorts, health tourism, adventure tourism, and golf tourism.
The National Tourism Administration of Vietnam proudly announced that Vietnam received 19 World’s Leading Awards and 54 Asia’s Leading Awards from the World Travel Awards in 2023. Notably, Vietnam was bestowed the prestigious title of “World’s Leading Heritage Destination” for the fourth time and was voted “Asia’s Leading Destination” for the fifth consecutive year. The National Tourism Administration of Vietnam itself was honored as “Asia’s Leading Tourism Management Agency” for the fourth time, acknowledging its efforts in developing favorable mechanisms and policies for the tourism industry and driving the strong recovery of the sector.
Mr. Nguyen Quy Phuong expressed his confidence in Vietnam’s tourism industry, stating that with concerted efforts in tourism recovery, promotion, destination development, and service enhancement, along with the support and collaboration of businesses, partners, and media agencies, Vietnam’s tourism will regain its pre-pandemic strength and continue to flourish.
